Easyling Release Notes - 2015 July

July saw our staff taking some of their well-deserved vacations, so development slowed down a little. That doesn’t mean we don’t have any cool new stuff for you, though! A new video is produced to help explaining what a Translation Proxy is. The Workbench gained the ability to accept a number of keyboard shortcuts, Source Caches can be built in a targeted fashion, and a more visible notifications of outdated export lists. See the details after the fold!

What is Translation Proxy and how does it work?

We created a short, vendor-independent video about the website translation proxy to explain the technology, how it works, the question of hosting and how the translation is created.

The video is a great way for LSPs to explain translation proxy to their clients. Feel free to share it! Should you need your logo at the end, or create a dubbed version, please inquire in email.

Keyboard shortcuts on the Workbench

The Workbench has been enhanced with a number of new keyboard shortcuts, making it easier to search, navigate and edit entries. The shortcuts work on Macs, as well as Windows and Linux (on iDevices, Cmd should be substituted for Ctrl):

  * Ctrl+Up/Down: move between entries
  * Ctrl+Up (no selected entry): select the last entry in view
  * Ctrl+Down (no selected entry): select the first entry in view
  * Ctrl+Shift+F: open search toolbar
  * Ctrl+Shift+Backspace: reset search (clear the active search term, refresh the list, and close the toolbar)
  * Esc: close search toolbar (if open)
  * Ctrl+Space: focus on Target Editor
  * Ctrl+Enter: Save current entry and move to next
  * Ctrl+Shift+Enter: Save current entry, confirm, and move to next
  * Alt+[1-9]: use selection of the appropriate number (place the suggestion into the Target Editor, overwriting its contents)

Add Pages and Cache Building

Also, we’ve enhanced the Add Pages dialog. You may be familiar with the notion of the Source Cache from an earlier blog post, which lets you snapshot the site at a give moment in time, and then use those responses to serve the translated site, even though the original site has moved on. Previously, this required a full crawl, as we had to hit each page in turn to cache the response. However, we now rolled out the switches for this to the Add Pages dialog as well, meaning you can create/update the Source Cache surgically (just for one page, or for a given list). This may be useful if the clients requests additional pages to be added to the current translation run in an emergency.

A more visible Export List Notification

Finally, the Export List Notification was made a bit more visible: now, if the server responds with an outdated export list when the All Entries view is opened, the refresh dialog pops up, in addition to the previous notification of the colored Refresh button. You still have the option to ignore this and continue with the old export list, but your All Entries view may be missing entries that were added since the last list was generated!

CDN Integration

Due to increasing demand to serve content to Asia and South America with high speed/low latency, we looked into supporting different CDN providers (Akamai/RackSpace, CloudFlare, AWS CloudFront, Incapsula, etc). If you want to go beyond what Google’s standard Edge Node networks can offer, we can help you “wrap” the proxy service with an additional CDN layer. What are the advantages? Requests served by the CDN will not reach our servers, so your costs will drop. Also, CDNs provide cached content from the geographically closest datacenter, meaning page loading times may decrease in some areas. Furthermore, web application firewalls can be integrated as well.
